Fox
A restless forest dweller that avoids slimes without being part of their usual prey.
Foxes range through the forest in quick, irregular movements. They rest more often by day and move about more at night. They flee nearby dangers at great speed and can soon leave a pursuing slime behind. Magma do not treat them as prey; despite their animal form, that sets them apart from hares, deer and boars.
A fox that dies of age or violence still leaves carrion. Hunting status and carcasses are separate properties: what a Magma does not pursue on its own may later feed an Undead. Foxes too belong to the forest's finite wildlife and do not reappear after vanishing.
