Crystals
Crystals feed Gloom and are also notable deposits underground.

Gloom use crystals as food specific to their species. They find surface deposits in the Glowing Cave's crystal fields and underground deposits in rock. A crystal's glow does not itself make it a light danger: what matters to Gloom is the light that actually reaches them.
Finding and carrying
On the surface, a crystal draws foragers through the dark biome. Below ground, a deposit can be both a digging target and a food store, taken in several portions. Once picked up and set down again, this cargo too counts as a universal food parcel. Other species can use the processed store although they cannot eat the raw crystal.
Regrowth only on the surface
Surface food crystals regrow in limited numbers near the permanent crystal decorations of the Glowing Cave; rain and light are not required. An underground deposit, by contrast, is finite. It can hold several portions, but disappears from the rock when fully mined. An exhausted tunnel is not replenished at that same deposit.
Above ground, a small new find glowed among the old crystal tips. The spent tunnel beneath remained dark.
