Nutrition points and food parcels
Nutrition points measure usable food, not the form in which it was found.

Water lilies, rotting wood, crystals, carcasses and other species-specific sources can become food parcels when collected. The parcel is then universal: any species may carry, eat or store it in a nest. Its earlier origin remains neither a restriction nor a form it can revert to. Mushrooms are suitable for all species even as a natural source. Nectar stays outside this cycle and never becomes food.
Displayed NP are rounded up to whole points. A visible parcel always contains usable food; at zero NP it is spent and disappears. Several slimes can eat from a large natural source at once, visibly and numerically reducing it.
Individual and colony
An autonomous forager prefers to carry food home. Only at critical hunger does it take a portion on the way. Personal survival, the hungriest companions and the reserve for births thus compete for the same resource without creating separate kinds of food.
