Queen and offspring

Each queen is the living centre of a particular nest.

A large queen with workers and food reserves

A queen usually rests in her chamber. Food parcels stored nearby form her reserve for births. If enough food is present, she is alive, and a free reachable place exists, a new colony member appears after a short settling period. Each queen has her own local storage and birthing area.

The exception that moves

The queen is a real creature in the simulation: she can be wounded, controlled and, in unusual circumstances, moved. Under direct control she has the visible primary needs of her species in a slower form. In ordinary nest life, however, she remains at rest and focused on births.

When a queen falls

When a queen dies, her nest loses its normal births. Other queens of the same species continue. A deserted burrow that still physically exists may later be claimed again under suitable conditions.
