Autonomous behaviour

A free slime follows no script; it continually weighs competing needs.

Pen study of several slimes taking different paths, one carrying a load

Between tasks, a slime assesses its surroundings, needs and current orders. Immediate flight takes priority over combat; combat over hunting and foraging; meeting a critical need over aimless wandering. A useful journey already underway is not abandoned at every small change.

Foragers usually carry their loads to the nest before looking for a new destination. Critical hunger, thirst or exhaustion may interrupt a delivery. This can look indecisive, but it is a safety choice: a parcel helps the colony little if its carrier collapses on the way.

Memory without omniscience

Local food trails lead searchers towards productive sources. Empty destinations lose priority for a while. Experiences of danger belong to each colony, and the camera does not reveal unknown places to the AI.

Withdrawal

Very low energy sends a free slime towards a safe place to rest. A critical primary need or an immediate attacker can override this withdrawal. Ordinary work resumes after recovery.
